The U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics announced on the 10th (local time) that the Producer Price Index (PPI) for August rose 5.4% compared to the same month of the previous year.

This slightly exceeds the expert consensus estimate of 5.3% compiled by Dow Jones.

Compared to the previous month, the PPI rose 0.4%, matching the expert consensus estimate.

Producer prices, also referred to as wholesale prices, are accepted as a leading indicator of consumer prices because they are reflected in final consumer goods prices with a certain time lag.
