U.S. President Donald Trump announced that if Republicans win the November midterm elections, he will distribute 5,000 dollars, or approximately 6.7 million won, to every American adult.

Speaking at the Republican National Convention in Dallas, Texas, on the 9th local time, President Trump vowed, "If Republicans win both the House and the Senate," adding, "We will pay a dividend of 5,000 dollars to every adult American citizen."

President Trump emphasized, "It's very similar to how a successful corporation pays cash dividends to its shareholders."

He then attached a condition, stating, "That money must be spent inside the United States," and announced, "It will be called the 'Trump Dividend.'"

Currently, the Republican Party led by President Trump controls both the House and the Senate in the federal legislature, but projections suggest that Democrats could reclaim majority status in the House as well as the Senate in the midterms.

Although President Trump did not disclose the funding sources or the payment method for the dividend, criticisms are rising that this is effectively a vote-buying pledge ahead of the election.

This is not the first time the Trump administration has promised direct cash support to Americans.

Last July, upon launching tax-deferred savings investment accounts for American children, it was announced that a one-time support of 1,000 dollars would be provided to children born during President Trump's term.
