At 4:52 a.m. today (September 10), a report was filed with the fire authorities stating that a fire had broken out in a cell phone that was being charged on the sixth floor of a nine-story dormitory building at Kyungpook National University in Sangyeok-dong, Buk-gu, Daegu.
The fire burned the cell phone and part of a mattress before extinguishing itself within a few minutes.
While there were no casualties, the fire alarm went off, causing around 200 people, including students inside the dormitory, to evacuate in the middle of the night.
A fire official said, "We plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire, such as overcharging."
