A brief commotion occurred just before U.S. President Donald Trump boarded his new presidential aircraft gifted by Qatar, when the emergency escape slide accidentally deployed.

President Trump traveled to Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on the afternoon of the 9th local time to fly to Dallas, Texas, where the Republican National Convention was being held.

Air Force One, which was set to carry President Trump and his entourage, was waiting on the base runway.

The aircraft is a modified Boeing 747-8 that the Qatari royal family gifted to President Trump during his Middle East tour last year.

For long-distance travel at home and abroad, President Trump typically takes the presidential helicopter Marine One from the White House in Washington, D.C. to Joint Base Andrews, where he transfers to Air Force One.

Before President Trump stepped out of Marine One that day, the inflatable slide on the waiting Air Force One suddenly deployed.

The device used for evacuation during an emergency landing of an aircraft had been triggered.

President Trump's boarding was briefly delayed while the situation was being handled.

As a precaution for any potential contingency, the previously used Air Force One was deployed as a backup.

Speaking to reporters waiting in front of Air Force One, President Trump remarked, "Slide check," adding, "Just wanted to make sure everything works perfectly."

However, contrary to President Trump's explanation, CBS News reported that the cause was an Air Force crew member mistakenly activating the emergency escape slide.

While President Trump was fond of the new Air Force One gifted by Qatar, concerns had been raised that its security capabilities, such as advanced missile defense systems, might be inadequate due to the hasty modifications rushed for field deployment.

The new Air Force One was first utilized for President Trump's overseas visit during the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit held in Ankara, Turkey, last July.

However, upon his departure from Ankara to return home at the time, President Trump did not immediately use the new Air Force One due to intelligence regarding a terrorist threat from Iran.

Instead, he boarded the older Air Force One, a Boeing 747-200, and shortly afterwards stealthily slipped away to board an Air Force transport plane to RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom.

From there, he transferred to the new Air Force One and returned to the United States.
