Comedian Lee Hyuk-jae, who left the broadcasting industry following a 2010 controversy involving the assault of an entertainment establishment employee, has been involved in a drunk driving accident.

Lee stated that the accident occurred while he was trying to pick up his cell phone after dropping it.

At around 10 p.m. the day before yesterday (the 8th), Lee was driving under the influence in Songdo-dong, Incheon, when he rear-ended a motorcycle stopped at a traffic light.

At the time, his blood alcohol concentration measured by the police was within the range for license suspension.

In an interview, Lee stated that he had a couple of drinks while having dinner at a restaurant near his house.

He explained that since it was a short distance home, he got behind the wheel, but while driving, he tried to pick up his dropped cell phone, causing the vehicle to lurch forward and resulting in the accident.

Lee, who was active on various entertainment programs in the past, had his broadcasting activities suspended due to the 2010 assault controversy involving an establishment worker, and has since been embroiled in further controversies involving legal disputes and unpaid taxes.
