While the United States is blatantly pressuring South Korea to dispatch troops to the Strait of Hormuz, the Ministry of National Defense has sent an on-site fact-finding team to the Middle East. The ministry explains this does not presuppose actual troop deployment, but it is clear that the time for a decision is approaching. Open voices of opposition are also emerging within the ruling bloc. Professor Lee Moon-young of the Institute for Peace and Unification Studies at Seoul National University, who appeared on SBS <Discovery of Knowledge>, also clearly expressed opposition to the deployment. When Anchor Jeong Yu-mi asked whether the government is contemplating the deployment "because it is Trump," Professor Lee stated that the deployment must not be made precisely "because it is Trump." Check out the reasons in the video.
