Three local government officials from Ulsan who were on a trip successfully rescued a woman in her 50s who had fallen into a tetrapod.

The protagonists are Staff Officer Jung (identified by his surname) from Byeongyeong 2-dong in Jung-gu, Staff Officer Choi from the Economic Policy Division in Nam-gu, and Staff Officer Choi from Duseo-myeon in Ulju-gun.

According to Jung-gu, Ulsan, today (September 9), these officials, who are friends from their new recruit training, went on a two-day, one-night trip to the coast of Gampo-eup, Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, on September 5.

At 8:58 PM on the first day, while returning to their accommodation after buying snacks at a convenience store near the sea, they saw a woman climbing over the stairs installed at the pier toward the tetrapods.

Sensing that it looked dangerous, Staff Officer Jung and the others immediately ran toward the tetrapods, but the woman, surnamed A, was nowhere to be seen, and only cries for help and sobbing could be heard.

Staff Officer Jung and the others called 119 while searching various parts of the tetrapods, and found Ms. A isolated underneath.

Without hesitating, Staff Officer Jung and his companions bent down, grabbed Ms. A by the shoulders, and pulled her up together to effect the rescue.

They then brought a blanket from their accommodation and draped it over the shivering woman to help her calm down.

Ms. A returned home safely after receiving treatment from dispatched emergency personnel.

Ms. A expressed her gratitude, saying, "The three of them are my benefactors who risked danger in the darkness to save my life. I will never forget that they reached out their hands without hesitation, and I will live each day diligently."

The officials stated, "Our bodies moved first out of the desire to help in any way we could. We think we did what we naturally should have done as public officials, and above all, we are just glad that the woman returned home safely."
