First, amid growing concerns over public safety in Jeju lately, an anecdote circulating online has been confirmed to be untrue.

The story was recently uploaded by a YouTuber, who claimed it was something her acquaintance went through.

According to the account, a woman took a taxi at dawn and dozed off for a moment, only to wake up later to find herself in a reed field.

The story claimed that she managed to escape and report it to the police because the taxi driver was outside making a phone call.

However, Jeju police stated that after checking 112 emergency call records and the criminal justice information system, no reports matching this account have been found to date.

The YouTuber in question pointed out public safety issues in the Jeju region by mentioning incidents such as a woman being threatened in a public restroom at Jeju City Hall and a jewelry store theft committed by Chinese nationals.

According to police verification, the public restroom incident occurred 10 years ago in 2016, and the jewelry store theft took place in May 2024.
