Samsung Electronics has launched an investigation into allegations that some employees in its Device Solutions (DS) semiconductor division improperly received company housing subsidies.

According to industry sources, anonymous online communities for office workers have recently seen successive posts claiming that some DS employees working at the Pyeongtaek business site submitted lease agreements differing from actual rental terms in order to receive housing support.

Since 2022, the Samsung Electronics DS division has provided up to 700,000 won per month in rent subsidies for employees working at the Pyeongtaek site who reside in officetels, one-room studios, or 1.5-room units with a floor space of less than 33 square meters.

This welfare program is designed for employees who face difficulties commuting due to their hometowns being far away or who need to secure separate housing for shift work.

However, allegations have been raised that some employees actually reside in housing larger than 33 square meters or in two-room units, but improperly received subsidies by underreporting the floor space or misrepresenting the housing type on their lease agreements.

Samsung Electronics is currently verifying the facts regarding the allegations raised against employees who have received housing subsidies.
