The Japanese government announced that it has strongly protested China's decision to implement preliminary anti-dumping measures on Japanese chemical materials used in semiconductor manufacturing processes.

During a press briefing this morning, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara responded to questions on the matter, stating, "As Japan, we will work closely with the Japanese companies targeted by the investigation, closely examine the status and impact of the investigation, and respond appropriately to ensure that there are no unfair disruptions to business activities."

Previously, yesterday (the 7th), China's Ministry of Commerce announced via a notice on its official website that it had decided on preliminary anti-dumping measures against dichlorosilane, a chemical used in semiconductor processes imported from Japan.

China initiated the provisional anti-dumping measures starting today, imposing tariffs ranging from 80.8% to 99.2% on Japanese dichlorosilane.

China's Ministry of Commerce launched its anti-dumping investigation into Japanese dichlorosilane on January 7.

The day prior, Beijing had also announced export control measures targeting dual-use materials aimed at Japan.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara pointed out, "Regarding the Chinese government's export administration, export restriction measures on dual-use items targeting solely Japan run counter to the international practice of not implementing export controls directed at specific countries or groups."

He emphasized, "We are lodging a strong protest and demanding its withdrawal," adding, "We will continue to strengthen cooperation with allies, including the G7, while maintaining close communication with Japanese companies to respond appropriately to China's export control measures."
