U.S. President Donald Trump has been continuously ramping up threats ahead of the implementation of Canada's retaliatory tariffs against the United States.

Writing on his social media platform Truth Social on the 7th (local time), President Trump stated, "Do not sell any more Bombardiers in the United States. Their products are no good."

Trump claimed, "More than 50% of their sales come from the United States. They live off of American buyers, American companies, American airports, and American services. Meanwhile, Canada is blocking our wonderful American banks and companies."

Bombardier is a Canadian manufacturer of corporate and private jets.

Reuters reported that, as Trump pointed out, about half of the 5,100 aircraft sold by the company are currently operating in the United States.

Criticizing that Canada has blocked domestic business operations of Gulfstream, an American jet manufacturer and competitor to Bombardier, Trump called it "completely unfair and unjust."

He urged, "If they want our market, they have to build it right here in the United States. They must stop treating the United States like a piggy bank."

He went on to write, "Buy American. Fly in American passenger planes. Enjoy American beer and drinks. Sail on Lake America."

"Lake America" is the name Trump coined to rename Lake Ontario, which lies between Canada and the United States.

Trump's remarks reiterate his longstanding argument that Canada relies on the massive U.S. market while blocking U.S. companies from entering Canada.

On the 2nd, President Trump said, "Major Canadian banks are all here in the United States, and this is where they make their biggest profits. Yet they do not allow U.S. banks to enter Canada."

He explained that while Gulfstream was unable to do business for nine years because it failed to receive certification from the Canadian government, Bombardier has been operating freely in the United States, and he used the threat of tariffs to correct this.

In fact, in January, President Trump threatened to impose a 50% tariff on Canadian aircraft until Gulfstream aircraft received certification from the Canadian government, and Canada certified Gulfstream aircraft in February.

However, Reuters noted that Bombardier aircraft use engines from U.S. companies such as Honeywell and General Electric, and with 3,500 jobs in the U.S. and a substantial production and supply chain, it remains questionable whether a jet sales ban will actually be implemented.

Trump's threatening remarks came ahead of the scheduled rollout on the 8th of retaliatory tariffs announced by Canada on U.S. products of the same scale, in response to the U.S. imposing 50% tariffs on approximately 20 billion dollars worth of Canadian products starting from August 22nd.

On the 4th, President Trump stated, "If we do not trade with Canada at all, we save 90 billion dollars," hinting that if the Federal Reserve does not cut interest rates, he could halt trade with trade surplus countries against the U.S., including Canada.

Furthermore, the previous day, he criticized Canada for using its weak currency value to boost exports to the U.S., stating, "The imbalance between the U.S. and Canadian dollars is unacceptable. It has been that way for years, but no longer."
