A cargo plane has skidded off the runway while landing at an airport in Miami, United States. The aircraft slid out onto a road outside the airport, crashing into multiple vehicles and leaving at least five people dead.

A cargo plane veers off the runway and pushes all the way onto a road outside the airport.

The cargo plane finally comes to a halt only after colliding with several vehicles.

Thick black smoke billows continuously as a fire breaks out from the impacted fuselage.

[Miami Fire Radio Transmission (At the time of the fire): Folks, we have a plane fire. Plane fire. You need to brace yourselves.]

[Miami Fire Radio Transmission (At the time of the fire): Heavy fire on the right side.]

Deploying around 200 personnel, firefighters continuously spray water onto the aircraft to prevent an engine explosion.

The cargo plane involved in the accident is owned by e-commerce giant Amazon. On the 6th, local time, it had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, a U.S. territory, and was landing at Miami International Airport.

Skidding past the runway and onto the road outside the airport, the accident aircraft struck multiple vehicles, killing at least five people and injuring five others, three of whom are in critical condition.

It has not been confirmed whether the victims were aboard the aircraft or inside the vehicles.

The accident aircraft is a 32-year-old Boeing 767-300 model originally used as a passenger plane and converted into a cargo plane in 2015, and has been operated by cargo specialist airline 21 Air.

While the cause of the accident has not yet been determined, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board plan to investigate the incident.

Amazon stated via social media that it is cooperating with authorities to determine the circumstances of the accident and will do its utmost to support the victims.
