Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that "Russia still appears overly confident and is not considering any form of talks."

According to the Office of the President of Ukraine on the 7th local time, President Zelenskyy made the remarks during a joint press conference with special envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump the previous day, saying, "We must do everything possible to make trilateral talks happen."

He added, "After the elections (legislative elections) in Russia, mobilization targeting only the eastern front will take place," arguing that Russia is clinging to military pressure rather than diplomatic efforts.

Trilateral peace negotiations mediated by the United States were held until February of this year but were suspended in the wake of the Middle East crisis.

Even if trilateral peace talks resume, difficulties are seen as inevitable due to the large differences in positions between the two sides over the Donbas region in eastern Ukraine.

President Zelenskyy stated, "Territorial issues remain a critical matter," adding, "I believe these complex issues can only be resolved at the summit level."

President Zelenskyy has repeatedly proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold a summit in a neutral third country, but the Kremlin has effectively rejected third-country talks, demanding, "If you want a talk, come to Moscow."

The issue of supplying the Patriot air defense network promised by President Trump was also reportedly discussed at the meeting with the U.S. special delegation.

During the NATO summit held in Ankara, Turkey, in July, President Trump promised to grant Ukraine a license to produce Patriot missiles, but stepped back in less than a month, saying he was "not sure."

President Zelenskyy said, "The U.S. plans to increase production of Patriot interceptor missiles next year," adding, "We expect this equipment to be supplied."

He also emphasized, "We must develop Ukraine's own ballistic missile defense system."

Ukraine plans to hold meetings soon with Norway, Canada, and others regarding air defense support.

Mentioning that national security advisors from the United Kingdom, France, and Germany participated in the peace discussions with the U.S. special envoys this time, President Zelenskyy said, "We will do everything possible to restore trilateral meetings involving Europe."

U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner visited Moscow and Kyiv consecutively over the weekend, holding back-to-back meetings with President Putin followed by President Zelenskyy.

This marks the first visit to Kyiv by U.S. special envoys.

President Zelenskyy held three rounds of meetings with the U.S. special envoys until late the previous day to discuss a peace plan, but appears to have failed to find a breakthrough that could swiftly end the war.
