At around 6:30 PM today (Sept. 7), a fire broke out on the 6th floor of a 14-story apartment building in Geumcheon-dong, Sangdang-gu, Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province.

Upon receiving the report, firefighting authorities deployed about 50 personnel and 19 pieces of equipment, completely extinguishing the fire in about 50 minutes.

A woman in her 40s living in the unit where the fire started inhaled smoke and was transported to a hospital by emergency services, while two other residents also inhaled smoke and are receiving medical treatment.

As the fire broke out, the city of Cheongju sent out a disaster text message urging, "A large amount of smoke is being generated. Nearby residents should be mindful of safety, and vehicles should detour."

Fire authorities believe the fire started on a gas stove and are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
