Police have moved to secure the custody of independent lawmaker Kim Byung-kee, who faces 13 allegations of misconduct, including arranging employment and college admission favors for his second son and accepting nomination-related contributions.

The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced today (Sept. 7) that it has requested an arrest warrant for Rep. Kim from the prosecution on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes and obstruction of business.

This comes one year after police launched an investigation in September of last year following the emergence of various suspicions surrounding Rep. Kim.

Police stated, "Considering that the investigation results objectively substantiate the charges and that there is a risk of evidence destruction, we have applied for a pre-trial arrest warrant."
