Kim Do-young of the KIA Tigers has been named the Monthly Most Valuable Player (MVP) for August in the 2026 Shinhan SOL KBO League.
According to the voting results announced on September 7, Kim earned a total score of 42.32 points, combining a press voting rate of 28.6% (10 out of 35 votes) and a fan voting rate of 56.1% (277,640 out of 495,144 votes), beating out Kwak 빈 (Doosan Bears, 23.89 points) to claim the honor.
This marks Kim's third career monthly MVP award, following March-April and June of 2024.
Among KIA players, he has won the second most times, following Yang Hyeon-jong (5 times).
In August alone, Kim posted a batting average of 0.321 and topped three categories: home runs (6), runs scored (16), and slugging percentage (0.714).
During a game against the Lotte Giants on August 26, he hit his 39th home run of the season, breaking his previous personal single-season high of 38 set in 2024.
Kim is now just one home run and two RBIs away from reaching the milestone of 40 home runs and 100 RBIs.
It has been 8 years since a domestic batter last reached the 40-home-run mark.
As the August MVP, Kim will receive a prize of 3 million won along with a trophy.
Additionally, with the sponsorship of Shinhan Bank, a donation of 2 million won will be made in Kim's name to his alma mater, Gwangju Dongseong Middle School.
