At around 2 p.m. local time yesterday (September 6), an Amazon cargo plane veered off the runway while landing at Miami International Airport in Florida, U.S., colliding with two trucks and leaving five people dead and five others injured.

The cargo plane involved is a Boeing 767-300 freighter that departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, and belongs to Amazon Air, Amazon's air cargo service.

Miami-Dade County authorities stated that the accident resulted in five fatalities and five injuries, with three of the injured in critical condition.

About 200 rescue personnel were deployed to the scene, and cleanup operations continued as fuel leaked from the damaged aircraft.

The U.S. National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration have launched an investigation into the cause of the accident, and the exact cause has not yet been determined.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service, thunderstorms and gusts of up to 48 km/h were recorded in the area at the time of the accident, but it has not been confirmed whether the weather contributed to the crash.

Immediately following the accident, Miami International Airport closed all runways and suspended flight operations, causing disruptions that included the delay of approximately 250 flights.

Amazon stated in a release, "We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families," and added that it will fully cooperate with all investigations.
