Police have moved to secure an arrest warrant for independent Lawmaker Kim Byung-kee, who faces 13 allegations of corruption, including securing preferential treatment for his second son's college admission and employment, as well as receiving illegal nomination contributions.

The Public Crime Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced today (the 7th) that it has requested the prosecution to issue an arrest warrant for Lawmaker Kim on charges including bribery under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes, and obstruction of business.

This comes one year after police launched an investigation in September of last year following the emergence of various allegations surrounding Lawmaker Kim.

Lawmaker Kim is accused of promising preferential legislative activities to entities such as Soongsil University, Bithumb, and Jinwoo Santen, while requesting favors for his second son's transfer admission and employment.

He is also suspected of obstructing the business operations of Soongsil University and other institutions in the process.

Police stated, "In consideration of the investigative findings that objectively substantiate the charges and the risk of evidence destruction, we have applied for a pre-trial detention warrant."
