Speeches by floor negotiation groups begin at the National Assembly today (7th). Stepping up as the first speaker, MINJU Party leader Kim Min-seok stated that the party will push for constitutional amendments—starting with including the spirit of the May 18 Democratization Movement in the preamble of the Constitution and reforming the power structure up to the limit desired by the public. He also proposed that ruling and opposition lawmakers sit mixed together in the plenary chamber to foster cooperative politics.

MINJU Party leader Kim Min-seok delivered his first floor negotiation group speech at the National Assembly since taking office.

He stated that he would pursue a "realistic constitutional amendment" that reflects changing times and public demands.

[Kim Min-seok / Leader, MINJU Party: Including the May 18 Movement and the Bu-Ma Democratic Struggle in the constitutional preamble is the starting point for constitutional reform, and the reorganization of the power structure should go as far as the public desires.]

Addressing the People Power Party, he urged them to join the constitutional amendment by asking whether they are the historical successors of former President Kim Young-sam.

As for political reform measures, he announced plans to officially discuss easing the requirements for forming a floor negotiation group and to push for the ruling and opposition youth committee chairs to jointly attend government youth policy meetings. He also proposed that instead of sitting divided by party in the National Assembly plenary chamber, ruling and opposition lawmakers sit mixed together in alphabetical order.

Leader Kim stated that following prosecutorial reform, police reform will also be pursued.

He explained that the plan aims to eradicate unauthorized case closures, the concealment and fabrication of evidence, and the leakage of investigative information, while strengthening external audits and legal responsibility for shoddy investigations.

Regarding real estate issues, he pledged to push forward swiftly with the third-phase new towns so they can be felt by 2030, and proposed forming a housing policy consultative body involving the opposition party and the Seoul Metropolitan Government.

In the diplomacy and security sectors, he emphasized that independent security capabilities must be strengthened in preparation for the possibility that the U.S. and North Korea might adopt a "North Korean nuclear freeze first, resolution later" approach.
