Boston Red Sox Cuban closer Aroldis Chapman, 38, has secured his 400th career save in Major League Baseball (MLB).

Pitching in the top of the 9th inning with a 3-1 lead in an away game against the Baltimore Orioles at Oriole Park at Camden Yards in Baltimore, Maryland, on the 7th (Korean time), Chapman struck out two batters and pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the victory.

Collecting his 33rd save of the season, Chapman became the 9th closer in MLB history to reach the 400-save milestone.

Among active pitchers, he is the third to achieve this, following Kenley Jansen (Detroit Tigers, 493 saves) and Craig Kimbrel (Kansas City Royals, 441 saves).

He also became the third left-handed relief pitcher to reach 400 saves, following John Franco (424 saves) and Billy Wagner (422 saves).

The all-time leader in career saves is Mariano Rivera with 652 saves.

Making his big league debut with the Cincinnati Reds in 2010 and earning his first save the following year, Chapman has established himself as a full-time closer since 2012. He subsequently played for the Chicago Cubs (2016), New York Yankees (2016–2022), Kansas City Royals and Texas Rangers (both in 2023), and Pittsburgh Pirates (2024), before joining Boston in 2025.

He rose to elite closer status by picking up 38 saves in each of the two consecutive years from 2012 to 2013.

Revitalized in a Boston uniform, he has reached 30 or more saves in a single season 10 times up to this year.
