"I'm quitting medical school."

There was a common characteristic among the majority of students who dropped out of medical schools last year.

Survey results showed that 8 out of 10 of these medical students were from regional medical schools.

When an entrance exam hagwon (prep school) analyzed disclosure data from Univ.gaja.kr, the number of students who dropped out midway from 39 medical schools nationwide last year was tallied at 383.

Midway dropout refers to cases where students quit school halfway through due to voluntary withdrawal, non-registration, or failure to return.

Among them, 301 students were enrolled in medical schools outside the greater Seoul area.

Dropouts in Seoul stood at 48, while Gyeonggi Province and Incheon combined accounted for only 34.

The number of students dropping out of medical schools outside the greater Seoul area has been on an upward trend every year.

What is the reason?

Many analyses suggest that medical students outside the greater Seoul area are heading back to medical schools in the capital area.

The admissions industry believes that as regional talent admissions quotas expand, more top-tier students in regional areas are first entering local medical schools and subsequently re-entering medical schools in the greater Seoul area.
