US Presidential Envoy for mediating an end to the Russia-Ukraine war is meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy following his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 6 (local time) to continue discussions on ending the war.

According to Reuters, AFP, and other news agencies, US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner visited Kyiv on this day.

This marks the first time that US envoys have visited Kyiv.

While they have been mediating peace talks between the two countries, they had faced criticism for visiting Moscow eight times while relatively neglecting Ukraine's stance.

They plan to hold discussions on ending the war with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy today.

On social media, President Zelenskyy emphasized, "Our proposals are ready, and it is important to negotiate in a substantive and realistic manner through coordinated approaches," adding, "Security guarantees are necessary."

The day before, they met with President Putin at the Kremlin to discuss a peace proposal.

The Russian side stated that it conveyed to the US side its existing position that it could seize the stalled eastern Donbas region by force.

Earlier this year during the negotiation process, Ukraine rejected Russia's demand to cede the Donbas region and has maintained proposals such as freezing the current front lines.

Attention is focused on the possibility of resuming peace talks as the series of meetings by the US envoys with Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy comes amid intensifying clashes between the two sides recently.

Peace talks mediated by the US were suspended in February of this year due to the fallout from the Middle East situation.

The two sides agreed not to attack each other's capitals for three days to facilitate the consecutive meetings of the US envoys.

However, with neither side securing a definitive upper hand on the front lines and both sticking to their respective positions, prevailing observations suggest that there is still a long way to go before an actual end to the war.

Even on the night before the US envoys' visit to Kyiv, both sides continued attacks targeting areas outside their capitals.

According to Russian regional authorities, Ukrainian forces attacked the Ryazan oil refinery, one of Russia's largest oil refineries.

The Ukrainian military stated that Russia launched 108 drones.
