Emergency authorities rushed to extinguish a fire after a blaze that started from a large freight truck on a highway spread to a nearby mountain.

At around 3:40 PM today (the 6th), a report was received that a fire had broken out in a 5-ton wing body truck near the Dopyeong Tunnel on the Daegu-bound section of the Daegu-Pohang Expressway.

The fire, which originated from the vehicle, spread rapidly up the ridge. Fire authorities mobilized helicopters, some 20 vehicles, and about 60 personnel, managing to extinguish the flames in approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, officials said.

No injuries were reported from the incident, but traffic in the area was completely blocked for about an hour, causing disruptions.

Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the exact cause of the fire and the scale of the damage.
