A controversy has erupted after the contents of a group chat room from a university club in Daegu, containing sexually harassing remarks targeting female members, were made public.

According to the university community on Sunday (Sept. 6), a post was uploaded on Everytime, an anonymous online community for college students, on Sept. 4. The post included screenshots believed to be from the club's chat room, alleging that sexually harassing and insulting remarks directed at female members were exchanged.

Based on the chat room screenshots and other evidence, the author of the post claimed that "sexually harassing remarks targeting specific female members were repeatedly made within the club."

As the controversy grew, the club released a statement saying, "After checking with the person accused, they stated it was false," denying the allegations.

However, fierce backlash from students continues, with criticisms that the response and verification of the facts were inadequate given that the chat room screenshots have already been made public.

The university stated, "Although the incident has not been officially reported to the campus human rights center, we have immediately launched an investigation into the facts. If confirmed, we will take strict disciplinary actions and measures to prevent recurrence."

Meanwhile, at Kyungpook National University, some students were previously disciplined after it was revealed that they had engaged in routine sexual harassment, such as evaluating the appearances of female students in a group chat room.
