A captain in his 70s of a fishing boat fell into the sea in Taean, South Chungcheong Province, and was rescued in a state of cardiac arrest.
At around 7:20 AM today (the 6th), a report was received at Mandae Port in Taean-gun, South Chungcheong Province, stating, "The boat's engine is running, but the captain cannot be found."
The Korea Coast Guard, which launched a search, rescued the 79-year-old captain, surnamed A, from the waters near the boat about 40 minutes later.
Captain A, who was found in cardiac arrest, was transported to a hospital.
Based on fishing records and other evidence, the Coast Guard believes that Captain A suffered the accident while preparing to set sail, and is investigating the exact circumstances.
