The anticipated German league showdown between South Korean same-age peers born in 1996, Kim Min-jae of Bayern Munich and Hwang Hee-chan who recently transferred to Schalke 04, fell through as both players failed to take the pitch.

Hwang and Kim did not feature in the 2026–2027 Bundesliga Round 2 match between Schalke and Bayern held on the 6th (local time) at the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Forward Hwang, who previously played for Wolverhampton Wanderers in the English Championship (second division), moved to Schalke on loan just before the transfer deadline on the 2nd, with today's match against Bayern marking Schalke's first fixture since his arrival.

However, the "Korean derby" anticipated by South Korean fans did not take place.

Hwang, having just transferred to his new team, was completely left off the matchday roster.

Center-back Kim, who had started in all official matches this season, also did not play and remained on the bench.

Schalke and Bayern played to a 0-0 scoreless draw.

Bayern dominated the match, recording 83 percent possession.

They registered five shots on target (compared to Schalke's one), but none found the back of the net.

Bayern sits in 4th place with one win and one draw, while Schalke is in 14th place with one draw and one loss.
