A series of fatalities occurred in the North Gyeongsang Province region today due to water-related accidents and farming machinery incidents.

At around 10:32 AM today, a father in his 40s who was trying to rescue his elementary school son from drowning in a valley in Sugok-ri, Geunnam-myeon, Uljin-gun, and another man in his 40s who went to help him, were rescued in a state of cardiac arrest.

When the child playing in the valley water drifted away in the current, the father and the other man went to the rescue together.

After pulling the child out of the water, the two men fell into a state of cardiac arrest in the water. They were rescued by emergency rescue teams and transported to a hospital, but ultimately passed away.

The child was reported to be safe.

Shortly before that, at around 10:29 AM, a report was received that two men in their 50s who had been swimming were missing off the coast in front of Mangyang Hwanggeum Daege Park in Uljin-gun.

Rescue teams arrived at the scene and pulled the two men out, but both were dead.

The two were tourists and were found not to have been wearing life jackets at the time of the accident.

It was found that strong winds of 12 to 14 meters per second were blowing and waves 2.5 to 3 meters high were churning at the scene at the time.

At the request of the East Sea Coast Guard, Uljin-gun had sent out an emergency disaster text message at around 9:20 AM before the accident occurred, stating that due to high swell waves across the entire east coast, there was a high risk of being swept into the sea, and urged people to refrain from entering the water and to move to safe areas.

Considering that the number of holidaymakers visiting beaches is expected to increase over the weekend, the East Sea Coast Guard plans to strengthen safety management for fishing boats and patrols in waters with hazardous factors such as swell waves.

Two people also died in water-related accidents in Gumi.

At around 9:07 AM today, a man in his 60s was found dead near the Nakdong River in Imsu-dong, Gumi, and at around 12:48 PM, a man in his 50s was found dead in a reservoir in Otae-dong, Gumi.

The man found in the reservoir had reportedly left home telling his family he was going fishing.

At around 6:27 AM in Chunsan-myeon, Uiseong-gun, and at around 8:42 AM in Jukjang-myeon, Pohang, men in their 80s died after being trapped under farming machinery in separate incidents.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of each case.
