The legal representative of internet broadcaster (BJ) Gwajub Seyeon (real name In Se-yeon, 25), who has been booked by police on charges of administering psychotropic drugs, released an official statement to directly refute the allegations.
Attorney Ahn Hyung-seo of Myosu Law Firm, Gwajub Seyeon's legal representative, stated in a release on the 3rd, "This situation stemmed from an incident where Gwajub Seyeon was transported to an emergency room and received treatment after taking sleeping pills (containing zolpidem) possessed by her romantic partner amid escalating conflicts between them."
Attorney Ahn continued, "Aside from this, Gwajub Seyeon has never been involved in or received proxy prescriptions for sleeping pills. We clearly state that there is absolutely no truth to the allegations of illegally possessing or using narcotics or marijuana," denying suspicions related to proxy prescriptions and drugs.
However, he added, "At the time, Gwajub Seyeon did not fully recognize the legal significance and risks of taking someone else's sleeping pills, but after seeking legal advice, she has realized her mistake and is deeply reflecting," acknowledging fault regarding the ingestion of the sleeping pills itself.
In particular, he addressed recent suspicions regarding changing her hairstyle to destroy evidence by pointing out specific dates.
Attorney Ahn emphasized, "Gwajub Seyeon faithfully cooperated with the investigation by voluntarily providing her medical institution's prescription and administration records when she appeared before investigative authorities on the 4th of last month, and voluntarily submitted hair samples on the same day without any modifications such as cutting or bleaching. The subsequent change of hairstyle through cutting and bleaching occurred on the 25th of last month, about three weeks after the voluntary hair submission date, clearly showing that the hairstyle change has nothing to do with the police investigation."
He added, "We earnestly ask you to refrain from groundless speculations and malicious criticisms suggesting that Gwajub Seyeon was involved in proxy prescriptions or illegally acquired and used marijuana or narcotics," and added, "We sincerely apologize for causing concern to many people."
This statement from the legal representative follows Gwajub Seyeon's personal broadcast on SOOP on the 1st, where she denied proxy prescription suspicions by stating, "I didn't get a proxy prescription, but oppa and I were investigated regarding proxy prescriptions. That's a fact. People say I got a proxy prescription and was investigated together, but that's not a fact." She also admitted to taking her partner's sleeping pills by saying, "Something happened with oppa and I took a huge amount of pills. Oppa's."
Regarding the hairstyle change, Gwajub Seyeon also claimed during the broadcast, "I already cut 100 strands of hair when I was investigated. It was when I had black hair. Since that's in the past, bleaching has nothing to do with it (the investigation)." Today's statement reinforced the credibility of her explanation by adding specific dates: "voluntary submission on the 4th of last month" and "hairstyle change on the 25th of last month." However, while she previously delivered her stance briefly during the broadcast by flashing text on screen saying "I didn't use drugs. I didn't get proxy prescriptions," the latest stance is elevated in formality as an official document under her legal representative's name.
Gwajub Seyeon's romantic partner, BJ K (real name Park Joong-gyu, 36), has also been booked alongside her in this case. K is suspected of having an acquaintance obtain sleeping pills through a proxy prescription and then receiving them, and he admitted during a personal broadcast on the 27th of last month that he was investigated for these charges. Previously, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station booked three individuals, including Gwajub Seyeon and K, on July 30th on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropics).
The two drew attention by going public with their romantic relationship last April, overcoming an 11-year age gap. The couple has continued to display affection despite the controversy, with K personally appearing on Gwajub Seyeon's clarification broadcast on the 1st to publicly support her by gifting Star Balloons worth 1.25 million won.
