Regarding the fact that he was previously fined for drunk driving, Minister of Justice Nominee Kim Seung-won stated today (September 4), "I deeply reflect on my actions and sincerely apologize to the public."

Nominee Kim served as a judge at the Suwon District Court from February 2006 to February 2008. After leaving the bench and working as a lawyer, he was fined 700,000 won by the Suwon District Court in July 2008 on charges of drunk driving.

Nominee Kim's confirmation hearing preparation team announced through a media notice today, "Drunk driving is a mistake that cannot be excused for any reason," adding, "As a lawyer at the time, I should have conducted myself much more strictly."
