Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is seeking a historic fourth presidential term, met with Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio to discuss environmental protection and indigenous rights.

DiCaprio is also active as an environmental activist, having established his own environmental foundation.

President Lula held a conversation lasting about 40 minutes with DiCaprio, who visited the Planalto Palace in Brasília on the afternoon of the 3rd local time.

Through social media, President Lula stated, "We had an in-depth conversation about Brazil's environmental protection policies, including the impacts of climate change, the reduction of deforestation to record levels, the crackdown on illegal gold mining, and the designation of indigenous territories."

President Lula emphasized that Brazil possesses some of the cleanest energy sources in the world.

DiCaprio shared how he first visited Xingu, a major indigenous reserve in the southern Amazon, 25 years ago, and discussed his close relationship with Chief Raoni Metuktire.

Within Brazil, analysts suggest that this meeting is a strategy by President Lula aimed at winning over voters for the upcoming presidential election.

The meeting is seen as a move to consolidate his progressive support base by leveraging his achievements in Amazon preservation and DiCaprio's global recognition, while also appealing to young voters and moderate constituents who care deeply about climate issues.
