A current civil servant husband who tracked down his wife—who had relocated to escape domestic violence—using the address listed in their divorce petition and killed her in front of their young children is attending a warrant hearing today (September 3).

The Suwon District Court's Seongnam Branch will hold a substantive warrant review at 11:00 AM today for the husband in his 30s, identified as A, who faces charges including murder and violation of the Child Welfare Act.

Whether A will be detained is expected to be decided later this afternoon.

Around 10:00 AM today, A emerged from the Bundang Police Station wearing a mask and a hat pulled down, and boarded a transport vehicle heading to the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court.

He did not answer questions from reporters, such as "Why did you kill your wife?", "When did you plan the crime?", "Why did you routinely commit domestic violence?", and "Do you have anything to say to the bereaved family?"

A, a sitting civil servant, is accused of stabbing and killing his wife in her 30s—who had been staying at a multi-family housing stairwell in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, to hide from domestic violence—at around 7:20 AM that morning.

At the time, A committed the crime at a scene where their young children were present, leading to additional charges of emotional child abuse.

Investigations revealed that A harbored resentment out of concern that he would face unfavorable results in the divorce suit filed by his wife, prompting him to track her down using the address written in the divorce petition and commit the crime.

Police urgently arrested A about four hours and twenty minutes after the crime occurred and applied for an arrest warrant yesterday.
