KIA Tigers professional baseball player Kim Do-young is continuing his pursuit of Lee Seung-yeop's legendary record for the youngest player to reach 40 home runs today. There was a particularly close call.

Kim Do-young hit his 39th home run of the season last Wednesday, but subsequent rainouts canceled three games, and he failed to add to his tally in the two games he played.

To break the record for the youngest player to reach 40 home runs set by Lee Seung-yeop in 1999, Kim must hit a home run by this Sunday, September 6. He is currently facing intense defensive focus from the opposing team.

In his first plate appearance in the first inning against NC starting pitcher Coda, Kim battled through a full count before walking to first base. He calmly took four balls in his second plate appearance in the third inning to draw another walk.

Toda tried to lure him with a dropping breaking ball as an out-pitch, but Kim was not fooled.

A truly heart-breaking moment came during his third plate appearance in the sixth inning.

He powerfully connected with a cutter right down the middle from Toda, but the ball was caught just in front of the center field wall.

The massive drive traveled 124 meters, prompting groans from his teammates and away fans, while Toda let out a sigh of relief.
