On the afternoon of August 28, a sudden explosion broke out at an auto repair shop in Dongtan-gu, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, sending fierce flames shooting into the air.

As thick black smoke blanketed the sky and the fire spread rapidly, emergency authorities briefly issued a Level 1 response. One person in his 50s affiliated with the shop sustained severe injuries in the accident and was transported to the hospital.

Nearby merchants reported hearing successive explosions, with the shockwave strong enough to shake the interiors of neighboring shops.
