Gwangju Police Station in Gyeonggi Province announced today (September 2) that it has launched dedicated support measures to protect the child who was present at the scene of the "active public official murder case," in which a man tracked down and killed his wife who had fled to escape domestic violence.

Police identified that the victim's child, Ms. A, was at the multi-family housing scene when her mother was tragically killed during the incident.

In response, the police have assigned a victim support officer to Ms. A for continuous monitoring and are providing support for her to receive psychological counseling and treatment.

Having stayed in temporary lodging provided by the police until yesterday, Ms. A relocated to the home of other family members in another region today.

The police plan to provide separate temporary accommodation if Ms. A's family visits Gwangju City in the future for witness questioning and other procedures.

In addition, to thoroughly separate Ms. A from her biological father, the perpetrator, the police have applied to the court for temporary measures Nos. 2 through 5 under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment of Child Abuse Crimes.

These measures include a prohibition on approaching within 100 meters, a prohibition on approaching via telecommunications, and the suspension of parental rights.

Because the police also consider Ms. A a crime victim and have applied charges of emotional abuse under the Child Welfare Act against the suspect, support linked with local governments is also expected to be available.

The current Act on the Protection of Crime Victims stipulates that local governments must actively strive to protect and support crime victims and secure the necessary financial resources.

A police official stated, "We plan to discuss follow-up support measures with Gwangju City in Gyeonggi Province and the local government with jurisdiction over the victim child's residence, and undertake necessary actions such as livelihood support."

Previously, at around 7:17 AM yesterday, a man in his 30s who is an active-duty public official tracked down his wife, also in who was in her 30s and had fled to escape domestic violence, and stabbed her to death with a weapon.

Investigations revealed that the suspect committed the crime harboring a grudge, believing he would face an unfavorable outcome in the divorce lawsuit filed by his wife, and tracked her down using the address listed in the complaint.
