Director Park Chan-wook has previewed his upcoming project "The Brigands of Rattlecreek," describing it as the most brutal film among his works.

During a 20th-anniversary special screening event for his film "I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK" held at Seoul Art Cinema on August 29, Director Park shared insights about his new project "The Brigands of Rattlecreek," saying, "It is a very violent film. It features the most brutal scenes out of all the films I have made, while also being a work that explores guilt and love."

"The Brigands of Rattlecreek" tells the story of a gang that attacks a small town in the American West during a downpour, and a sheriff and a doctor who pursue them to exact revenge. Matthew McConaughey, Austin Butler, Pedro Pascal, Tang Wei, and Adele Exarchopoulos have confirmed their casting.

Matthew McConaughey is set to play the town sheriff, Tang Wei the sheriff's wife, Austin Butler the leader of the outlaw group, Adele Exarchopoulos the outlaw leader's wife, and Pedro Pascal the doctor.

This marks Park Chan-wook's first American film directing project and his first Western since "Stoker," 13 years ago. Although the Western is a Western genre, expectations are high that it will be shaped into a genre film showcasing Park's distinctive style.

Director Park, who gained global fame with his Vengeance Trilogy ("Oldboy," "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance," and "Lady Vengeance"), has announced his return to revenge thrillers and raised expectations among domestic and international fans by hinting at a high level of intensity. With the screenplay for "The Brigands of Rattlecreek" written by S. Craig Zahler, the creator of "Bone Tomahawk" and "Brawl in Cell Block 99," unprecedented levels of violence and brutality are anticipated.

Director Park's new project will also reunite him with longtime cinematic comrades who have worked with him on numerous films including "Oldboy," such as cinematographer Chung Chung-hoon, music director Jo Yeong-wook, and production designer Ryu Seong-hee.

Filming for "The Brigands of Rattlecreek" is scheduled to begin next year.
