Police have requested an arrest warrant for a public servant in his 30s, identified as Mr. A, who fatally stabbed his wife with a weapon yesterday (September 1) in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, while they were undergoing a divorce lawsuit.

A man gets off a motorcycle, enters a building wearing a helmet, and moments later comes back out, gets on the motorcycle, and flees in a rush.

At around 7:17 AM yesterday, Mr. A, a man in his 30s, fatally stabbed his estranged wife at a multi-family housing unit in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province.

Mr. A reportedly stated during police questioning, "I harbored a grudge after recently receiving the divorce complaint and thinking that I would face unfavorable outcomes in overall matters, including alimony, property division, and child custody and child support."

Police requested an arrest warrant for Mr. A this morning on charges of murder and violation of the Child Welfare Act.

Police explained that they added the charge of child abuse by considering that a 5-year-old child was present at the scene at the time, viewing it as emotional abuse.

The deceased wife had reported Mr. A to the police a total of four times from March of last year until recently, claiming she suffered from domestic violence, including intimidation.

However, police stated that she consistently expressed her wish not to have her husband, Mr. A, who is a current public servant, punished.

After consulting with a police officer out of concern that her address had been exposed during the service of divorce lawsuit documents, the victim received a smart watch, and the court also issued temporary protection orders such as a ban on approaching within 100 meters.

Yesterday morning, the wife—who encountered Mr. A—urgently reported the situation using her smart watch, but the tragedy could not be prevented.
