A driver in his 30s has been arrested after fleeing from police for about 20 kilometers through downtown Daegu, crashing into 11 vehicles in succession and injuring a police officer.

Police pursued the vehicle after receiving a report suspecting drunk driving. When the driver attempted to flee once again from his residence, police responded by firing live rounds into the tires and using a taser to subdue him.

The Daegu Bukbu Police Station announced today (Sept. 2) that they have apprehended and are investigating a man in his 30s, identified as A, on charges including special obstruction of official duties for causing a minor traffic accident and subsequently ramming police cars and officers during his escape.

B, another person in their 30s who was a passenger in the vehicle, was also apprehended on charges of aiding and abetting drunk driving.

According to police, A is suspected of driving a Mercedes near Gugu Tunnel in Buk-gu at 2:03 a.m. today, causing a contact accident with a 5.1-ton truck, and then fleeing instead of complying with police demands to exit the vehicle, ramming police cars and officers in the process.

At the time, police were dispatched after receiving a report from a citizen suspecting drunk driving near Gugu Tunnel. Following a pursuit, they cornered A's vehicle with police cars in front of his residence and demanded that he get out.

However, A refused to comply and attempted to escape again by driving his car, crashing into 8 parked vehicles and 2 police cars during the process.

He also struck a police officer, causing injuries such as a fractured thigh bone.

Police fired one blank round and then successively discharged four live rounds into the front and rear tires of the Mercedes.

After A opened the door and got out, police fired a taser to subdue him and arrested him and B at the scene as flagrant offenders at 2:45 a.m.

Both of them refused to take a breathalyzer test.

According to the police investigation, a report suspecting drunk driving had already been filed regarding A's vehicle at 1:41 a.m. today on a road in Suseong-gu, prior to the contact accident at Gugu Tunnel.

Subsequently, a report was also filed stating that A had assaulted a taxi driver in Dong-gu.

Later, while passing near the Goseong District Unit in Buk-gu, A rammed a police car that was pursuing him and fled.

A drove a total of about 20 kilometers, passing through Suseong-gu, Dong-gu, Jung-gu, and eventually reaching his residence in Buk-gu.

A total of 11 vehicles were damaged by A, including 9 private vehicles and 2 police cars.

Because A committed offenses across multiple jurisdictions, related cases have also been filed at other police stations, such as the Dongbu Police Station.

A police official stated, "We need to examine the details of the incidents that occurred under the jurisdiction of other police stations," adding, "We plan to review applying for an arrest warrant."
