Explosives were discovered at a substation in eastern Germany, local media including dpa reported on September 1 local time.

Police found and dismantled several explosive-rigged devices at around 8 a.m. that day at the Turnow-Preilack substation in the state of Brandenburg.

Police stated that at least one explosion had already occurred, but residents were not affected.

Grid operator 50Hertz said, "This morning, an unidentified perpetrator appears to have caused property damage to several power lines," adding that while power transmission was temporarily halted, there are currently no abnormalities in the electricity supply.

Located on the border of Brandenburg and Saxony, the substation is a facility that distributes and transmits electricity generated from the nearby Jänschwalde lignite-fired power plant.

The daily newspaper Die Welt estimated that the incident appeared intended to cause a massive blackout at the power plant.

In Germany in January of this year, a suspected arson fire at a high-voltage power cable in Berlin left about 45,000 households and some 2,200 commercial facilities facing blackouts for days.

In March 2024, a fire at an electricity pylon in Brandenburg cut off power to a nearby Tesla factory for a week.

Vulcano, a far-left group advocating anti-capitalism, anti-technology, and anti-imperialism, claimed responsibility for both fires, though the actual perpetrators have not been confirmed.
