The government carried out a major reshuffle of senior police officials, including the appointment of Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Police Agency chief Kim Jong-cheol as the Deputy Commissioner General of the Korean National Police Agency on the 1st.
The National Police Agency stated that it fully implemented the regional restriction system, which bars officials from serving in their home regions, across all 18 regional police agencies nationwide to strengthen the fairness and accountability of police operations.
As a result, 14 out of the 18 regional police chiefs (78 percent) were replaced.
The replacement rate for all senior superintendent general positions stands at 81 percent.
