This is "Mirinae-jib," a long-term rental housing program provided by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to support housing stability, childbirth, and homeownership for newlyweds.

Starting last April, the city allowed tenants to pay their initial deposits in installments, a policy applied here for the first time at Jamsil LEEL.

Located near Jamsil Station, this large-scale complex features 1,865 households, including 98 "Mirinae-jib" units. The Seoul Metropolitan Government has decided to supply an additional 17,500 "Mirinae-jib" units by 2030.

Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon visited Jamsil LEEL today (the 1st) to inspect operations and held a meeting with newlywed residents.

Newlyweds who previously found it daunting to move into prime locations due to high prices expressed satisfaction, noting that they were able to move in with deposits set at 80 percent or less of market rates. They added that stable housing influenced their decision to have children.

In fact, a survey of "Mirinae-jib" residents conducted last January showed that 79 out of 216 respondent households (36.6 percent) had a child after moving in, and 84.7 percent responded that they plan to have children in the future.

Mayor Oh stated that to expand the supply of "Mirinae-jib," discussions are underway with the government under the condition that a certain percentage or more of new housing sites will be allocated to "Mirinae-jib."

In response to a suggestion to extend residency periods and allow moves to larger units upon having additional children, he said, "Considering that the maximum supply size for Mirinae-jib is around 82.5 square meters, I agree with the criticism that a 50 percent discount on the purchase price for having five children lacks realism," adding that he would review the matter.

He also addressed the "high-price controversy"—that some Mirinae-jib deposits in Gangnam exceed 1.3 billion won, making it advantageous only for newlyweds who can gather hundreds of millions of won in lump sums despite being public rental housing—stating that complementary measures will be studied.
