A 10-something South Korean female was kidnapped by local loan sharks in Vietnam before being rescued.

On August 15, a Korean female in her teens, identified as A, was kidnapped by local loan sharks in Hanoi, Vietnam, due to her father's gambling debts.

Father B, an employee stationed at a local branch of a South Korean company in Vietnam, reportedly failed to pay off debts incurred from gambling locally, leading the loan sharks to effectively take his daughter A hostage.

However, feeling threatened for his own safety, father B fled the country alone the very next day, August 16, leaving his daughter behind locally.

Given that confinement and assault stemming from gambling debts are frequent locally, B is known to have felt terrified.

Considering that A's mother was residing in South Korea, B's flight meant that A was completely isolated from her family.

It was A's local tutor who reported A's kidnapping to the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Vietnam in Hanoi.

Embassy officials and dispatched police officers tracked down A's location in cooperation with the Vietnamese police and successfully rescued her.

Fortunately, A was reportedly moved to a safe location on August 26.

Police and diplomatic authorities are reviewing whether to initiate an investigation after verifying whether B was a habitual gambler and determining the scale of his debts.
