A woman in her 30s who had reported domestic violence to the police five times and received a smartwatch has tragically been stabbed to death.

Police have identified her husband, a public official who was undergoing divorce proceedings with the victim, as a prime suspect and launched a manhunt.

At 7:17 a.m. today (Sept. 1), an incident occurred on the exterior stairs of a multi-family housing unit in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, where a woman identified as A was stabbed multiple times by an unidentified assailant.

Victim A, who had a history of reporting domestic violence in the past, used her police-issued smartwatch to report the attack and was transported to a hospital, but ultimately succumbed to her injuries.

Victim A's young daughter was also present at the scene of the crime, but it was confirmed that she did not sustain any direct physical injuries.

Police reviewed nearby CCTV footage, spotting a suspect wearing a hat riding a motorcycle to and from the scene, and have begun tracking him down.

Police strongly suspect that this suspect is victim A's husband, a public official in his 30s identified as B.

It was revealed that victim A had reported and requested counseling from the police a total of five times since March of last year, stating she had suffered domestic violence from B.

However, according to police explanations, victim A expressed her wish not to punish B each time.

Consequently, the Suwon Jangan Police Station, which has jurisdiction over victim A's residence, conducted its own investigation last May, booked B on domestic violence charges, and forwarded the case to the prosecution.

It was reported that victim A maintained her stance of not wanting B to be punished even during the investigation that ensued after the police transitioned their preliminary review into a formal investigation.

Following these incidents, victim A began living apart from B, residing in a multi-family housing unit in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, and initiated divorce proceedings starting in August of last year.

It is known that while undergoing divorce proceedings, victim A also obtained a temporary protection order decision from the court.

The temporary protection order includes provisions such as separation from the victim's residence, a prohibition on approaching within 100 meters, and a ban on approaching via electricity or telecommunications.

Considering these circumstances, police are viewing the husband, who is currently out of contact, as one of the primary suspects while keeping other possibilities open in their investigation.

However, because the suspect fled on a motorcycle amidst the rain, police are reportedly facing difficulties in their tracking efforts.

A police official stated, "We are pursuing the suspect through CCTV footage and other means," adding, "It is difficult to provide answers regarding ongoing investigative details."
