The Supreme Court announced on the 31st that Cho Bu-hwan, the father of Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae, passed away the previous day at the age of 93.

A Supreme Court official explained that Chief Justice Cho wishes to hold a quiet funeral with his family and respectfully declines external mourners.

Chief Justice Cho is not scheduled to report to work today and plans to attend to the funeral.

Earlier, the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee hinted at legal action after Chief Justice Cho submitted a notice of absence for a scheduled pending-issues questioning session today. However, due to his father's passing, attending the National Assembly has become impossible.
