One person was killed and five others were injured in a shooting at an open-air dance party in Switzerland, U.S. broadcaster CNN reported on the 30th local time.

According to the report, the shooting occurred at around 2:30 a.m. that day during a rave event at a racetrack in Aarau, Canton of Aargau, Switzerland. A 22-year-old woman was killed, while four men and one woman aged 24 to 27 were injured and are receiving treatment at a hospital.

All six victims are residents of Switzerland, and the deceased woman held Italian nationality, CNN reported.

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.

The exact circumstances and motive behind the shooting have not yet been confirmed.

One witness said, "At first, I thought it was fireworks," adding, "Around 2:30 a.m., the music suddenly stopped and then I heard gunshots."

Switzerland has one of the highest rates of civilian gun ownership in Europe, but mass shootings are relatively rare.

In a 2019 referendum, measures to tighten gun regulations were passed.

The worst mass shooting in Swiss history occurred in 2001.

At that time, a man opened fire at the parliament building in the Canton of Zug, killing 14 politicians.
