Song Sung-mun of the San Diego Padres in Major League Baseball (MLB) returned to the big league stage after six days and picked up his 16th RBI of the season.

Starting as the ninth-hitter and third baseman in an away game against the Tampa Bay Rays held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida, on the 31st (KST), Song recorded no hits in two at-bats, one RBI, one walk, and one stolen base.

His season batting average dropped from 0.202 to 0.198 (23 hits in 116 at-bats).

Having been sent down to the minor leagues on the 25th, Song was called up to the majors on this day to play his return game after six days.

The San Diego Padres placed Luis Rengifo and Gavin Sheets on the injured list, calling up Song Sung-mun and Samad Taylor.

Song faced his first plate appearance in the top of the second inning with two outs and a runner on first, but the inning ended without him completing his at-bat as first base runner Dustin Harris failed to steal second base.

After hitting a fly ball to center field in the top of the third and grounding out to shortstop in the top of the fifth, Song drove in his 16th RBI of the season in the top of the seventh with one out and a runner on third while his team was leading 2-1.

With a count of three balls and one strike, he hit an inside fastball clocked at 154.8 km/h from the opponent's second pitcher, Cam Boozer, for a sacrifice fly to right field.

In the top of the ninth with two outs and a runner on second, he reached base on an intentional walk and then successfully executed a double steal with Xander Bogaerts, recording his 13th stolen base of the season.

In the bottom of the ninth with San Diego leading 3-1, closer Mason Miller gave up a tying two-run home run to Jonny DeLuca.

San Diego took the lead again in the top of the 11th inning on a sacrifice fly by Ty France, but lost 4-5 after allowing a walk-off hit to Jorge Mateo of Tampa Bay in the bottom of the 11th.

Falling into a three-game losing streak, San Diego maintained third place in the National League West division with a record of 72 wins and 65 losses and a winning percentage of 0.526.


Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves remained silent without a hit for the second consecutive game.

Starting as the ninth-hitter and shortstop in a home game against the Colorado Rockies held at Truist Park in Atlanta, Georgia, Kim recorded no hits in three at-bats with one strikeout.

Remaining hitless for two straight games, Kim's season batting average dropped from 0.084 to 0.081 (7 hits in 86 at-bats).

Kim faced opposing starting pitcher Mason Adams in the bottom of the third inning with no outs and a runner on second while his team led 1-0, but flied out to right field.

In the bottom of the fifth, he stepped up as the leadoff hitter and struck out on a foul tip.

In the bottom of the seventh with one out and a runner on first and a 2-1 lead, he flied out to center field against newly changed pitcher Ryan Feltner.

Before his at-bat in the bottom of the ninth tied 2-2, he was replaced by pinch hitter Mike Yastrzemski to finish the game.

Atlanta secured a 3-2 victory in the bottom of the 10th inning with no outs and runners on first and third thanks to a walk-off RBI single by Matt Olson.

Extending their winning streak to seven games, Atlanta kept the lead in the National League East division with an 82-55 record and a 0.599 winning percentage.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco Giants, featuring Lee Jung-hoo, did not play on this day as it was a scheduled team rest day.
