Here is the weather update. Strong rain accompanied by gusts and thunder and lightning is expected to lash most parts of the country through tomorrow (Monday, August 31). In particular, up to 250mm of rain is forecast for the west coast of South Chungcheong Province through tomorrow, so thorough preparations are necessary.

On a road in Hwasun, South Jeolla Province, heavy rain that began in the afternoon splashes water as vehicles drive by.

At around 2:00 PM today, torrential downpours exceeding 100mm per hour struck the nearby Yeonggwang area, prompting emergency disaster text alerts.

Heavy rain of over 50mm per hour also poured in Imsil, North Jeolla Province, and Gwangju.

Even heavier rain is expected in some areas between tonight and early tomorrow morning.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecasts more than 250mm of heavy rain for the west coast of South Chungcheong Province and over 200mm for the inland areas of Chungcheong through tomorrow.

More than 120mm of heavy rain is expected in northwestern North Jeolla Province and inland southern Gangwon Province, and over 150mm in southern Gyeonggi Province.

This is due to a stationary front, similar to that of the monsoon season, forming as cold air from the north strongly collides with warm and humid air from the south.

In the greater Seoul metropolitan area, the heavy rain will mainly concentrate between early tomorrow morning and the morning hours, continuing until Tuesday morning.

Rain in the southern provinces and Jeju Island is forecast to stop between tomorrow evening and night.

The risk of landslides has also increased alongside the torrential downpours.

The Korea Forest Service announced that it has upgraded its landslide crisis alert for the Chungcheong region and Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province from "Caution" to "Warning," urging residents to pay close attention to evacuation guidance via emergency disaster text messages and other channels.
