It has been revealed that about 30% of all adult missing persons cases reported in Jeju were unilaterally closed by Police Officer Boo, a suspect in the false closure of missing person reports.

According to data on missing person reports and statuses submitted by the National Police Agency to People Power Party lawmaker Kim Jae-sub today (August 30), a total of 1,048 adult missing persons cases were reported in Jeju from March of last year, when Officer Boo was assigned to the missing persons team at the Jeju Seobu Police Station, through the end of July this year.

Officer Boo was found to have independently closed 298 cases during his tenure on the team.

The proportion of cases closed by Officer Boo out of the total reports received stands at 28.44%, which is close to 30%.

During Officer Boo's time on the missing persons team, the total number of adult missing persons cases resolved (closed) was 1,047, including 687 cases in 2025 and 360 cases this year.

The proportion of cases closed by Officer Boo out of the total resolved cases is 28.46%.

Assuming that 12 officers working in the missing persons teams across the province's three police stations—Jeju Seobu, Jeju Dongbu, and Seogwipo Police Stations—each closed an arithmetic average of 87 to 88 cases, Officer Boo alone handled more than three times the average.

This means the number of missing persons cases resolved by Officer Boo equals the scale of missing person reports received and resolved by an entire police station in the province.

In particular, such a high closure rate is generally considered unusual for adult missing persons cases, which involve various types such as runaway instances, inevitably deepening suspicions of sloppy or false case closures.

In fact, Officer Boo was arrested on charges of falsely closing the missing person reports of a woman in her 30s surnamed Jang in May and a man in her (his) 60s surnamed Park last month.

Regarding whether there are additional cases of missing person reports being falsely closed, the police stated, "We are conducting a full investigation," but have not disclosed the extent to which the investigation procedures have been carried out.
