Changwon Special City and core companies of the physical AI consortium are set to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to move into the Digital Free Trade Zone Innovation Town.
The office of People Power Party Representative Choi Hyung-du announced on the 28th that Changwon Special City and 57 core companies and institutions of the physical AI consortium will sign letters of intent to move into the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's Digital Free Trade Zone Innovation Town.
The push for the digital free trade zone has been in full swing since Changwon Special City designated the advanced industrial district in Masan Happo New Town, followed by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy's designation in January 2024.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy is currently pushing forward with a 390 billion won digital network AI innovation town project.
In particular, given the high proportion of physical AI in the government's mega-project, jobs related to the digital AI sector are also expected to increase.
Among the companies signing the MOU, cloud computing firm Megazone recently announced a large-scale AI investment project in the Middle East and is also participating in the Ministry of Science and ICT's national budget project for physical AI in Gyeongsangnam-do.
Representative Choi Hyung-du stated, "We will accelerate the pace even further," adding, "We will pick up the pace so that Changwon, once South Korea's manufacturing hub, can take a leap forward with the new wings of physical AI."
