At around 7:44 AM today, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake occurred 21 kilometers west-northwest of Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do.

The tremor registered an intensity of 2 in Jeollanam-do.

The vibration was weak enough that only a few people indoors or on upper floors of buildings could feel it, and the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) expects no damage from the quake.

As of 7:55 AM, no damage reports had been filed with the fire authorities.

Starting with a magnitude 2.1 earthquake on the 14th, Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, has experienced 10 tremors over the past half-month.

A magnitude 3.1 earthquake also occurred on the 23rd.

Although earthquakes have been occurring consecutively in Haenam, the KMA notes that the frequency of occurrences has been decreasing since the earthquake on the 23rd.

In particular, as seismic activity subsided following a magnitude 3.1 earthquake in the same region back in 2020, officials expect this downward trend to continue as well.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety has raised the crisis alert level to "Caution" for a preemptive response, and the KMA plans to install additional seismometers near the epicentral area to continue long-term monitoring.
