It has been confirmed that there are 55 unresolved missing persons cases from the past three years in the southern Gyeonggi Province region where the whereabouts of the subjects have not yet been verified.

The Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency announced that among the missing persons cases filed within its jurisdiction from January 2024 to July 31, 10 involve missing children and 45 involve adults.

Separately, long-term missing persons cases, including unresolved cases filed in the past, reach 115.

While inspecting 77,483 missing persons cases filed across 21 cities and counties in its jurisdiction over the past three years, the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency is examining whether there were any unlawful actions in the case handling process.

As controversies grow over sloppy police investigations following a recent false conclusion of a missing person case in Jeju, the police plan to focus on tracking down the whereabouts of the subjects in these unverified cases, including visiting them in person.

The police stated, "Among the unresolved cases, there are instances where signs of life are confirmed, but because face-to-face contact has not been made, they remain as missing persons on paper."

This inspection follows an order by the National Police Agency instructing provincial police agencies nationwide to fully review the receipt and handling status of missing persons cases by November.
